Wondering where I got the name for this blog?

In Malagasy, phrases that function as constructs can be written in one word. Zokilavabe is zoky for elder, lava for long, and be is an adverbial intensifier. Hence, my old nickname, Zokilavabe, or, “Really tall elder”…

Similarly, the capital of Madagascar is Antananarivo. Tana is city, arivo is a thousand, so it works out to something like “at the city of a thousand people.” (These days, it’s more like three million, but the point is the same.)
